The release date for the third chapter of “Mononokai the Movie” has been revealed. The title has been decided to be “Mononokai the Movie: Chapter 3: Snake God,” and is scheduled to be released in spring 2026.
The “Mononokai” series is derived from “Kazuneko,” a story from “Ayakashi,” which aired in 2006, and was broadcast as a TV anime in 2007. This story is about a mysterious man and drug seller who calms the strangeness caused by monsters possessed by human passions and grudges, and is popular for its gorgeous worldview that utilizes washi textures and the mysterious charm of drug seller.
The first movie, Mononokai the Movie: Karakasa, was produced in 2024, and the film was just released on March 14th, 2025. The release date for Chapter 3 has been announced in conjunction with the latest release of the show.
The title has been decided to be “Mononokai the Movie: Chapter 3: Snake God,” and is scheduled to be released in spring 2026. It has also been revealed that the setting will be in Ooku, just like in previous theatrical versions.
The Mononokai the Movie series features the theme throughout the entire chapter, “the fallacy of synthesis,” which means that “the correct answer for the individual and the interests of the entire group do not necessarily match.” Chapter 1 focuses on new maids Asa and Turtle, and the hardships of being forced to kill individuals and become imbued with groups, while Chapter 2 depicts the story of women who are protagonists with the Fuki and Button of the Miyuki Tail, the star of the Ooku, and try to escape from the control of power and stick to their own beliefs. Looking forward to further news reports, wondering which characters will be focused on in Chapter 3.
In addition, the first movie ticket card-type advance ticket for “Mononokai the Movie: Chapter 3: Snake God” is now on sale. The design depicts the image of a medicine seller holding a demonic sword in front of the “shrine” at the underground altar that appears in the film.
