What manga would you like to see adapted into an anime by foreign fans? “Kagrabachi”, “Gokurakucho”, “Akanehayashi”… “MyAnimeList” announces 2013 edition list of “Manga to Read”

MyAnimeList, the world’s largest community and database of Japanese anime and manga, has announced the 2025 edition list of the third edition of “You Should Read This Manga.” It consists of four categories, and the list of “Should Be Anime” (manga I would like to be made into an anime) selected include Gokurakucho, Akanebayashi, Ichisho Senkin, and Kindergarten WARS.

“You Should Read This Manga” is a global project born from the desire to help anime and manga fans around the world enjoy manga even more. “MyAnimeList” is used in over 240 countries and regions around the world, and is working with publishers and local bookstores to contribute to the development of manga culture.

Following last year, users have received web nominations and selected by MyAnimeList’s “Judge” (an expert with a manga-savvy) and the lists for each category have been decided: “You Should Read This Manga 2025” (a manga I would recommend to friends), “Should Be Anime” (a manga I would like to make into an anime), “Best for Beginners” (a manga recommended for beginners), and “Unique Art/Story” (a manga that is unique story/art manga). A total of 77 titles have been selected for 20 titles each.

“Should Be Anime” was selected from manga that have not been adapted into anime within the past five years, and included Kagurabachi, Gokurakucho, Akanehayashi, Two Smoke Behind the Supermarket, Ichisho Senkin, Kindergarten WARS, The Story of Meet Your Destiny, Kenturia, The Firefly Bride, and The Unable to Seduce the Exorcist.

In the trends seen in the 2025 edition list, half of the final selections were serialized in boys’ and young men’s magazines. One of four of them received more votes from women than men. It is also noteworthy that 25% of the works were selected from web manga platforms such as Shonen Jump+ and Manga UP.
More than half of the “Should Be Anime” list was aimed at boys, and the genres ranged. Furthermore, two-thirds of this list are distributed free of charge on Shueisha’s overseas manga magazine app and service, MANGA Plus.

The Unique Art/Story list also received more votes from female readers than other lists, and more than half of the votes. Approximately half of the list was serialized in young men’s magazines, so the style and storyline are also diverse.
As an individual work, “The Person I Interested Wasn’t a Man” received roughly the same number of nominations as the total total of last year’s Girls’ Love works. Kagrabachi also received twice as many nominations as other action films.
