Welcome back to the I Am Anime website

It has been announced that the Anne of Green Gables anime concert will be held at Tokyo Opera City Concert Hall on April 29, 2025. Held to commemorate Nippon Animation’s 50th anniversary, Isao Takahata’s timeless masterpiece will be revived with music and video.

“Anne of Green Gables” Anime Concert

“Anne of Green Gables” is a work that began airing in January 1979 as the fifth installment of Nippon Animation’s representative work “World Masterpiece Theater Series.” The story carefully depicts how the main character, Anne, who is sensitive and turns sad things into joy with her imagination, grows into an intelligent woman despite repeated failures with her family and friends. In the same year, it received the “Child Welfare Culture Award” selected by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare. Produced by a talented staff including director Isao Takahata and scene designer Hayao Miyazaki, one of its charms is the beautiful imagery of the rich nature of Green Gables and Anne’s mental landscape.

This will be the second time that an anime concert for this work will be held. The performance in November 2023 was sold out and ended on a high note. At the venue, a specially edited video of Anne’s life from the day she arrived at Green Gables to her farewell to her beloved adoptive father, Matthew, will be displayed on the screen. A number of wonderful songs, including the theme songs “Kikoerukashira” and “Samenai Yume” composed by contemporary music master Akira Miyoshi, will be brought to life through live orchestral performances.

Another highlight is that as a special supporter, Eiko Yamada, who plays Anne Shirley, perfectly recreates the last scene of the final episode. Ritsuko Owada, a singer known for the theme song “Kikoerukashira,” and Michio Hasama, who served as the narrator, will also be welcomed, and the program will be a must-see for fans, inviting them into the charming world of “Anne of Green Gables.” Along with the decision to hold the event, a special PV has also been released, so be sure to check it out.
