It has been announced that the movie “Home Alone 2” will be broadcast on Nippon Television’s movie program “Friday Road Show” on December 20th. Directed by Chris Columbus of Harry Potter and starring Macaulay Culkin, this blockbuster movie is a must-see for Christmas.

“Home Alone” was released in 1991 and was an unprecedented blockbuster that catapulted Macaulay Culkin to stardom. “Home Alone 2” is the sequel and follows the adventures of Kevin, a young boy who gets lost in New York.

The cast continues to include Macaulay Culkin, Joe Pesci, and Daniel Stern, as well as the new actress Brenda Fricker, who won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for “My Left Foot.”

Incoming US President Donald Trump also makes a cameo appearance. This is a classic Christmas movie that you can enjoy no matter how many times you watch it.

The story features the McAllister family, a large family living in Chicago. Previously, on a Christmas trip to Paris, Kevin (Macaulay Culkin) was left alone at home amidst the chaos of departure.

On our next Christmas trip, we will be heading to Florida, where there is an everlasting summer. Mom was careful not to repeat the same nightmare again, and Kevin was also careful not to get separated. However, he follows a stranger wearing the same coat as his father and ends up on a different plane. Kevin was not on board for Florida, but for New York…

When Kevin lands at the airport, he is confused because his family never shows up, but he is excited when he realizes that New York is his dream destination. Using her cunning, she ends up staying at a hotel with a card in her father’s name.

In the midst of all this, they encounter a robber duo who previously robbed Kevin’s house and were beaten up by Kevin. The duo who were supposed to have been arrested had escaped from prison. The story unfolds as Kevin ends up once again fighting off a pair of robbers in New York.

What I would like to focus on in this work is the cityscape of New York. One of the attractions of “Home Alone 2” is the series of famous places that appear one after another, making it possible to enjoy a trip to New York just by watching “Home Alone 2”.

New York City provided full cooperation during the location shoot. The film was filmed at Central Park’s Wollman Rink and Bethesda Fountain, as well as Radio City Music Hall, the show business hall of fame, Chinatown, and Wall Street.
Locations that can be called the face of New York, such as the now-defunct World Trade Center, were also filmed.

The Plaza Hotel, a famous luxury hotel facing Central Park, was particularly popular. The scene in the luxurious sweet room was shot on location in a hotel that rented out one floor for about a week.
The gorgeous decorations and solemn interior that appear on the screen are all genuine Plaza Hotel.

Also on display will be the giant Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center, which is still one of New York’s most famous Christmas tree spots. The giant tree decorated with 25,000 lights was originally lit up until New Year’s Eve, but for the purpose of filming this film, it was lit up until the new year for the first time.

The director of this film is Chris Columbus, who is also in charge of the Harry Potter series and is a master of the film industry who is skilled at bringing out the expressive faces of child actors.
A sequel was produced based on the common idea between him and producer and screenwriter John Hughes, “If we were to make a sequel, we wanted it to be set in New York.”

They both felt that the city of New York itself was like a huge amusement park and a huge maze. In particular, the director, Chris Columbus, graduated from New York University’s film department, and was familiar with the magical power of New York that swallows people up, and the mechanics of the city, which is like a gigantic maze.
