A talk event will be held on the 8th at Animate Ikebukuro Main Store at Animate Theater, a talk event commemorating the release of the Netflix series “Moonrise,” which will be exclusively distributed worldwide on April 10th, 2025. Voice actors Kobayashi Chiaki, Uemura Yuto, Yamada Misaki, director Hizuka Masashi, and WIT STUDIO’s animation producer Kawamura Ryoma took the stage and showed off the appeal of the work.

“Moonrise” Key Visual

This is a huge science fiction film about fate and rebellion, depicted on an epic scale, based on the original work by Ubukata Toh, the author of Fafner in the Azure and PSYCHO-PASS, character designs by Arakawa Hiromu of Fullmetal Alchemist, and animations by WIT STUDIO of SPY x FAMILY and other works. The story depicts the epic battle on a cosmic scale between the inhabitants of Earth who live in peace and the “Moon Resistance” who plot to liberate them from Earth.

Kobayashi took the stage when episodes 1 to 3 were played at the event, and the audience was getting excited enough, saying, “Jack, I played, is a very multifaceted character, and is so attractive that it’s hard to describe in a word. He will continue to grow and I’ll be struggling…and above all, episode 3 ended in a very interesting situation, right? If episode 4 and beyond start streaming on Netflix, be sure to watch it to the end!”

Apparently the dubbing of this film began three years ago. Furthermore, the dubbing was a different style from the animations in the regular TV series, and he recalls that it was a long period of dubbing, saying, “After filming six months, it was a year to spare and we were still going to start filming. There are 18 episodes in total, but it feels like we’ve filmed about 50 episodes (laughs).” He recalls that it was a long period of dubbing.

Uemura played the role of Jack’s childhood friend Phil, starring in the role of Kobayashi. “I’ve co-starred with Chiaki several times, but I think this was the first time I’ve had my feelings swayed to each other. My usual carefree parts are similar to Jack, but the way my feelings explode is “Chiaki, what I don’t know about!” “I was surprised,” he said.

He also said he was inspired by Kobayashi’s acting in a physical way, and revealed his role, saying, “Phil has the impression that he is cool at first glance, but I don’t think he tried to play it very cool. I think it would be fine as long as he is actively working towards things and putting his beliefs into action, which ultimately makes him look calm and brave. I played the role while discussing with sound director Mima-san.”

Phil has only been revealed on the official website, saying that he is “Jack’s childhood friend.” However, it was also revealed that the story was “popular with female staff,” which has nothing to do with the setting, and Kobayashi expressed jealousy, saying, “That’s unfair!”, which also caused laughter from the audience.

And this is the first time Yamada has been the main character in an anime. Furthermore, as this was her first appearance in the event, she expressed her nervous look on her face, but she expressed her joy with a big smile, saying, “I took the audition shortly after graduating from training school and joined the agency, and when I was contacted to her that I had passed, I was really surprised. I was so happy!” In addition to Kobayashi and Uemura, there are many veterans, and he said he was trying hard to help lead to his own growth, saying, “I was desperate to steal my skills as much as possible.”

Director Hizuka said, “I had the impression that Reese was very honest and had no thorns in her voice. I thought Yamada’s healthy and gentle voice was perfect, so I decided to ask for it.” “Combined with Mima’s direction, he really showed his honesty. I think he has become an honest and emotional character that fits his image. He was extremely wonderful,” he praised the film.

The dubbing began three years ago, but the production has been more than twice as many. The story goes back 10 years ago. “When I thought about something original and interesting, I was interested in Space Opera, so WIT STUDIO’s president Wada Takeshi made me meet with Professor Ubukata. At that time, I was like, “Let’s do it together,” and the project began to progress,” he also shared a valuable behind-the-scenes story.

In his final greeting, Kobayashi once again made a big statement saying, “To the bottom of my heart I think this work is amazing. Once streaming begins, I would be happy if you could watch episodes 3 and beyond and see what kind of story will end.” Uemura also called out, “It was a dubbing scene that seemed to be fighting in front of the microphone. I think it was a work that was created while enjoying the chemical reactions of the dialogue. Please also pay attention to the dialogue between Jack and Phil and the clash of thoughts.”
