A “Nagano Pilgrimage Event” was held on April 8th, ahead of the release of the movie Detective Conan: One-Eyed Afterimage (Flashback of Cough Cancer) on April 18th, 2025. Guest voice actors Yamada Takayuki and Yamashita Mizuki visited Nagano Prefecture, where the film was set, and visited the Nagano Prefectural Police and the Space Radio Observatory.

Detective Conan, whose comics by Aoyama Gosho exceeded 106 volumes, has sold over 270 million copies worldwide, and the TV anime series has also exceeded 1.100 times, so its momentum remains unavoidable.
The movie version, the 27th installment of Detective Conan: The Million Dollar Goryo (100 Mandollar Michishirube), released in 2024, marking its 30th anniversary, has surpassed box office sales of 15.8 billion yen, reaching an unprecedented record of breaking the highest box office gross in the series’ history.
The latest movie, Detective Conan: One-Eyed Afterimage (Flashback of Cage Cancer), is set in a snowy mountain in Nagano Prefecture. Nagano Prefectural Police’s Yamato Dansuke was pursuing a “man” on a snowy mountain, and a bullet grazes his left eye and gets caught up in an avalanche. Ten months later, Dansuke, who miraculously survived, receives a report that a researcher at Nobeyama Observatory had been attacked by someone and rushes to the scene. However, as soon as the parabolic antenna at the observatory began to move, my left eye, which had become one-eyed, suddenly began to throb.
Meanwhile, Mouri Kogoro and Conan, who had made an appointment to meet with their colleagues from their time at the Metropolitan Police Department who are investigating the avalanche accident, are heard on their way to the meeting place. Sleeping Kogoro and Yamato Dansuke of the Nagano Prefectural Police. What is the “sleeping memories” that connect two people who seem to have no connection at first glance?
At the Nagano Pilgrimage Event, Yamada Takayuki and Yamashita Mizuki first visit were the Nagano Prefectural Police, where one-eyed Inspector Yamato Dasuke, and others, belong to the work’s key figures. The two meet Conan at the entrance, and were surprised at the high level of reproduction of the anime, but their gaze went to the colored paper written by Aoyama Gosho, which was displayed at the reception desk. The colored paper that the teacher gave me when I visited for an interview last May, and although it is usually displayed in the Public Relations Division, when they heard that there are still fans who come to see one or two groups a day, the two cried out in admiration, saying, “The Nagano Prefectural Police Group is really popular after all…”

After that, as a real police service, the two visited the Regional Communications Command Division, which receives 9110 calls in Nagano Prefecture, and heard that about five people responded to an average of about 300 calls a day, which was a surprise.
Furthermore, at a courtesy talk event held with Nagano Governor Abe and prefectural police chief Suzuki, Yamada appealed to the loyal depiction of Nagano Prefecture in the film, saying, “The snowy mountains are depicted incredibly beautifully. However, since it’s the movie Detective Conan, the incident occurs, and there are quite a lot of action… I think even places that are familiar to people will show a completely different view.” Governor Abe also commented, “The names of the two people on the stage today also contain mountains, and Nagano Prefecture is a “mountain prefecture,” so I hope that the film will convey the charm of Nagano Prefecture’s natural beauty.”
Regarding the performance of the Nagano Prefectural Police in the film, Yamashita said, “There was a lot of trouble action in the snowy mountains of Nagano, and the characters’ actions there were also some really impressive things, making everyone who saw the film fall in love with the three (from the Nagano Prefectural Police)!”, and Chief Suzuki also said, “In the film, excellent Nagano Prefectural Police investigators are active, but there are also many professional staff members in the real Nagano Prefectural Police, so I want to do my best to prevent anything dangerous.”
During the photo session held after the talk, Yamada finished the event with a heartwarming atmosphere throughout, laughing, “An incident occurs where Conan is, so it’s scary to think that the photo session where you have to stay still is targeted from somewhere…”

Next, the two head to the Nobeyama Space Radio Observatory of the National Astronomical Observatory, where Marui Madoka, played by Yamashita, is working. The two held a photo session in front of the largest radio telescope in Japan, one of Japan’s largest, 45 meters tall, as also depicted in the teaser visual for the movie version drawn by Aoyama Sensei, and also saw the antennas actually move while changing angles. He watched as the antenna changed angle with a dull sound, crying out, “Wow! Amazing! He’s so cool!” and “It moves faster than I imagined!” In an interview conducted in a place where you can see the antenna, “There’s also a spectacular action at the end, so it’s so nervous to be here right now…” Yamada left a comment that hinted at growing expectations for the powerful and flashy action typical of Conan, and Yamashita also smiled and nodded with a smile.

After that, when Director Nishimura of the Space Radio Observatory explained the antennas and radio waves, the two listened enthusiastically, and went around the facilities with no end to conversation, and finally, Yamashita decided to try a special experience of the radio wave observations that Marui Madoka, whom he played, had done in the movie. In the observation room, where many monitors are normally set up, only researchers can enter, Yamashita operated the antenna using the equipment in his hand under the direction of Director Nishimura, and he looked at Yamada, who was watching the operation from behind, and looked out through the window in front of him as he actually moved the antenna, saying, “It was an amazing experience!”

Finally, when asked about his impressions throughout the day, Yamashita commented, “It took me about two hours by car from the Nagano Prefectural Police to this place (National Astronomical Observatory Nobeyama), and it was interesting to see how realistic Conan had traveled this distance too,” while Yamada commented, “It’s really faithfully recreated, so I think you can enjoy it if you go (to the place where it was set) after watching the movie!”, ending the day seemed to be fully enjoying the tour of the spots that were set in the movie.
The 28th installment of the latest film in the movie Detective Conan, “Detective Conan: One-Eyed Afterimage (Flashback of Cough Cancer),” was released on April 18, 2025. Also paying attention to the exploits of Otomo Takashi, played by Yamada Takayuki, and Marui Madoka, played by Yamashita Mizuki.
