Awareness of “Dragon Ball DAIMA” is 89%! Japanese anime situation report for American anime users
Welcome back to the I Am Anime website
The “TrendTracking Survey” is a research report that allows you to understand the penetration rate of Japanese anime works among American anime users (awareness to MD purchase), actual viewing conditions (viewing methods, services used), reasons for viewing and subsequent behavior, etc. This was announced by consumer intelligence company NIQ/GfK Japan. Works based on boys’ manga were at the top, including “Dragon Ball DAIMA,” which achieved approximately 90% recognition.
This “Quick Survey of Japanese Anime Works in the United States” tracks the same theme over a certain period of time. You can follow the changes in the viewing behavior of American anime users toward Japanese anime works.
In this survey, 23 works will be selected from among the 2024 fall season works that began broadcasting in October, and the survey will be conducted three times over three months from October to December. The survey included not only the “penetration level”, “perception route”, “actual viewing conditions”, and “post-viewing behavior” for each work, but also interviews about the content that is currently popular in the local area.
In the first survey conducted in October, of the 23 target works, “Dragon Ball DAIMA” had the highest recognition rate at 89%. This was followed by “BLEACH: Thousand Years of Blood War” with 69%, followed by “Ranma 1/2” with 48%, with works based on boys’ manga at the top. The most common reason for viewing all works was “TV programs”.
Web commercials were also the third most popular, indicating that many users are connected to viewing them through media. Other than the media, “friends, acquaintances, colleagues” was the second most popular choice, followed by “family members such as parents, brothers, sisters, etc.” in fourth place, indicating that there are many cases in which viewers are connected to people close to them.
The most common reason given for liking the work was that “the characters are each unique.” The second most popular answer was “A place with an epic story/story,” and the third was “A place with a funny story.” From this, it can be seen that American anime users place importance on the charm of the characters and the story.
Furthermore, “parts where the story is easy to understand” were chosen more often than “parts where the story is difficult to read,” suggesting that there is a tendency for simple and easy-to-understand stories to be preferred. In terms of actions taken after viewing a work, “watching it again” and “sending a YouTube recap to a friend” were cited. This suggests that many people repeatedly watch their favorite works or share them with friends.
