No. 873 Original or original?

Let’s expand on the previous story a little bit from a different angle. More than 35 years ago, when I was a junior high school student, I was still just an anime fan, and more than anything, a fan of Izuzaki (Tou). Around that time, I had a classmate, Mr. H, who was an enthusiastic Hayao Miyazaki admirer, and he was often copying Nausicaa. My younger sister liked it, and I myself liked Miyazaki anime, but the so-called “Miyazaki works” released at that time were “Future Boy Conan,” “Lupin the Third: The Castle of Cagliostro,” and “Detective Holmes.” About six movies in total (until 1988): “Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind,” “Laputa: Castle in the Sky,” and “My Neighbor Totoro.” In comparison, the works directed by Osamu Izaki,
“Ashita no Joe” “Aim for the Ace!” ”, “The Adventure of Gamba”, “Homeless Child”, “Treasure Island”, “The Rose of Versailles (second half)”, “Ashita no Joe 2”, “Cobra”, “Golgo 13”, “Aim for the Ace! 2” and more!
One of its characteristics is that most of them are TV series, but at a quick count (in 1988) there are already over 10!
Huh, most of it is original? Is it cheating because it’s not original? no,
For me, who wants to see the director’s work, is it based on the original work or the original work? No mystery!
is. So, is there any other director who has the same breadth of genres as Director Dezaki? From sports and youth stories to girls’ comics, gags, world masterpieces of literature, science fiction, robots, and hard-boiled action…
Even though most of the filmography is based on the original work, it is “all Izaki anime”!
From 1989 until his death in 2011, about 30 more films were added, including theaters, TV, OVAs, and short stories.
I have no intention of denying fans of Hayao Miyazaki’s works. On the contrary, I myself am a fan of Miyazaki’s anime (I am particularly influenced by “Future Boy Conan”), so why do I give priority to Dezaki? The source of this must be my “impatient personality”. Not just Miyazaki’s animation, but the cycle of releasing original new works by today’s anime artists (?) – Ultra-high quality theatrical works of around 100 minutes, which have been released over several years, are a cycle of “as a fan, looking forward to new works” for the impatient Itagaki. It’s too long. Compared to that, I am happy to be able to watch one or two new works a year in my Izuzaki anime fan life, where I look forward to the next work!
For example, the 1989 Izaki anime TV special “Lupin the Third: Bye-Bye Liberty Crisis!” ”, OVA “Kasei Nocturne” (all 4 volumes) and “Aim for the Ace! Final Stage” (12 episodes in total)! In 1990, the TV special “Lupine the Third: The Mystery of the Hemingway Papers”, the OAV “BB” (all 3 volumes), and “Shuranosuke Zanmaken – The Man with the Death Scythe”!
There is no need to calculate the “total length” anymore. If I don’t have a director who feeds the fans at this speed, I’ll get bored! That’s why I haven’t really watched any Miyazaki anime since “Howl’s Moving Castle.” Having said that, I think I have to watch anything like “The Wind Rises,” which Master Tomonaga (Kazuhide) participated in for the first time in a while.
So, for me, who wants to see new works by filmmakers, it doesn’t matter if it’s an original. Director Osamu Dezaki was the only anime director who released a new work at least every other year, if not every year, and who I was able to look forward to. On the other hand, no matter how interesting a director’s anime is, unless a new work is released every year, I won’t follow that director’s work as a fan, in my case.
Therefore, it’s been over 10 years since new works of Dezaki anime were made.I think I’m no longer an anime fan.
So, I’m going back to the anime industry.
