The memorable first film in the Star Wars series, Star Wars Episode 4: A New Hope, will be broadcast on Nippon Television’s Friday Roadshow on April 25th, 2025. It is the origin of a legendary work that is said to have changed the history of film.
This work depicts the epic battle between good and evil that takes place in a galaxy far away, far away. In 1977, when it was first screened nationwide as “STAR WARS,” which had no subtitles, its innovative visuals and impressive opening theme song (main title) also sparked a stir, causing social phenomena in various countries. It was released in Japan in 1978.
Later, the previous chapter, the trilogy (Episodes 1-3), was born, and a new subtitle was added, “Star Wars Episode 4: A New Hope.” The series’ total box office revenue up to the latest release continues to be second in the US (according to IMDb).

Additionally, the realism of the special effects footage, which was shot using epic songs created by film master John Williams, huge sets and ultra-precise miniature models, is overwhelming to those who watch it.
The Japanese dubbing was played by Shimada Toshi as Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), Isobe Tsutomu as Han Solo (Harrison Ford), and Takashima Masara as Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher).
The movie “Star Wars Episode 4: A New Hope” will be broadcast on Nippon Television’s “Friday Roadshow” from 9:00pm to 10:54pm on April 25th.
In addition, the sequels, the second film, Star Wars Episode 5: The Empire Strikes Back (directed by Irvin Kirshner) and the third film, Star Wars Episode 6: Return of the Jedi (directed by Richard Merchand), will be broadcast on terrestrial television and BS Nippon Television.

【story】
About 20 years after the rise of the empire, Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), a young man who lived as a farmer on the desert planet Tatooine, meets Obi-Wan Kenobi (Alec Guinness), who has been hiding for a long time. Eventually, Obi-Wan begins to train to become a Jedi, and begins to talk about the battles and the “force” between the Imperial and Rebels. After that, together with a talented spaceship pilot called Han Solo (Harrison Ford), who appears in search of reward, and his Wookie partner Chewbacca, they join the army to rescue Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher), the leader of the rebels, from the Death Star, the giant fortress commanded by Imperial Führer Darth Vader.
