“Mononokai: Chapter 2: Fire Mouse” will be released nationwide on March 14th, 2025. Prior to this, it has been revealed that the first chapter, Mononokai the Movie: Karakasa, will be screened nationwide from March 7th.
“Mononokai” is a TV anime that was derived from “Kayakashi” in “Ayakashi” and aired in 2007. This story follows a mysterious man and drug seller around countries to quell the strangeness caused by the monsters possessed by human passions and grudges.
In July 2024, the film “Mononokai: Karakama” was released. The Mononokai The Movie series is composed of three chapters, and Mononokai The Movie: Chapter 2: Fire Mouse is a sequel to that.
A special screening of “Mononokai: Karakasa the Movie” has been decided. This work was produced about 17 years after the TV anime aired, and with the support of fans, it recorded a long-running screening. Just as director Nakamura Kenji said, “They included attraction-like footage and sound that can only be felt in the theatrical environment,” the intensive footage overwhelmed the audience. It has received high praise from overseas, winning the Grand Prize in the Feature Anime category and the Bronze Award at the 28th Fantasia International Film Festival.
The special screening theaters will be announced on the official website from early March. This will be a great opportunity for those who want to look back on the previous film before the release of their latest film, Mononokai: Chapter 2: Fire Mouse, or who have missed the film.
New scene cuts from the latest film have also been revealed. This depicts a immersive battle scene and a drug seller peering through a hole in the lantern.
Furthermore, we were able to see Tokita Saburomaru and Asa, who will continue to appear in the previous film. Saburomaru is the younger brother of Fuki, the goddess of the Tengo, and after witnessing the tragedy of the previous film, he looks worried about his sister. ■Story
Shortly after his fierce battle with the Mononobi Karaka, a medicine seller (Kamiya Hiroshi) appears again in Ooku. Inside the Ooku, changes were occurring in the aftermath of the previous incident. Otomo Button (Tomatsu Haruka), a native of a prestigious family who succeeded Utayama, who was the general director, values discipline and balance and takes strict control. As a result, a crack arises between the two, Fuki (Hikasa Yoko), who is the spurt of the Emperor (Irino Yuzuru), who is completely beloved by the favor of the Emperor (Irino Yuzuru), and the gap between them only deepens. As the baby’s guardianship progresses from Sachiko (Tanezaki Atsumi), the Emperor’s wife, is selected as a guardian for the baby born to him, this is a major change in the situation that comes to Fuki. Fuki, who has been pregnant with an “unwanted child”, a spark that is inconvenient for the elderly Otomo (Horiuchi Keno), who manages the front line, is the man’s plot one after another.

The drug seller, who is keen on the work of Mononokai, tries to resolve the situation, but acts in groups and gets involved in the mysterious monster that appears and is terrified. The true identity of this monster is the children of the Fire Mouse, and they seem to be searching for their mother at the same time, but the Fire Mouse’s mother, the main character, is hard to see. Why do fire rats attack those targeting babies? What is the tragedy brought about by the passion of the Fire Rat, which still does not stop even when it burns itself.
The medicine seller solves the mystery and steps into the darkness that is nesting in the Ooku to find out the three sects[form, truth, and theory]that are used to cut through the monsters.
