This is Shinomiya’s first full-length animation directorial work, based on his own original script. Set in a 330-year-old fireworks factory and a fireworks shop that is about to be forced to evict its land, the film depicts the story of the young people who grew up there and their two-day journey over the phantom fireworks Shuhari.
Selected as one of five films in various stages of production from around the world at the Marché du Film “Animation Day” Annecy Animation Showcase at the “77th Cannes Film Festival” held in May 2024. It was done. It is a Japanese-French co-production with up-and-coming French studio Miyu Productions, and is already attracting attention from around the world.
The teaser visual released this time captures the scene in which Kaoru, who has returned from Tokyo, visits Keitaro, who is making fireworks at a Tachito fireworks shop that is about to be evicted by the government tomorrow, and the two meet again for the first time in four years. Something. It is impressive to see how delicately the interior of the room is depicted, as well as the way the sun shines through the window. Keitaro stops preparing to set off the fireworks and turns to look at Kaoru, and Kaoru’s expression is confused at being reunited for the first time in a long time.I would like to pay attention to the changes in the hearts of the two.
In addition, the special video shows Keitaro’s serious profile as he talks about Shuhari, which is called the phantom fireworks, and Kaoru, who is shocked to discover the existence of the blue pigment “Hanarokusho” that holds the key to Shuhari’s secret. The situation will be shown.
The two, who had been on separate paths, reunite and come up with a surprising plan in the remaining two days at the fireworks factory, which is about to be vacated. The exterior of a Japanese house converted into a fireworks factory and Kaoru swimming in the moonlight in the sea at night are depicted with overwhelming visual beauty, and expectations are high for the development of the story.
It has also been revealed that talented young actors Toshihisa Hagiwara and Kotone Furukawa will star in this film. Hagiwara will play the role of Keitaro Tateto, the second son of the long-established fireworks factory “Tateto Fireworks Store,” who strives to complete the phantom fireworks in place of his disappeared father. Furukawa will play the role of Kaoru Shikimori, Keitaro’s childhood friend who has left his hometown and is searching for a future in Tokyo. The two have never ceased to appear in popular works, but this will be their first attempt at anime voice acting. Her fresh and powerful acting gives a breath of fresh air to the character and the work.
Hagiwara commented, “At first, when I was recording by myself, I couldn’t get a good feel for it, and it made me realize how much I usually rely on the support of the people and environment around me when performing.” Although he was conflicted about his first challenge as a voice actor, it seems that he took the role seriously. Furukawa emphasized the originality of this work by saying, “I think this work is an art that brings together the past and the new, with director Shinomiya, who is a former Japanese painter, depicting fireworks in animation.”
The first full-length animated film directed by Japanese painter Yoshitoshi Shinomiya, “Hana Rokusho ga Dawn” will be released nationwide in 2025. Pay attention to this refreshingly moving story of the protagonists, who are at the mercy of today’s rapidly changing times, but still look to the future and make their own choices.
Toshihisa Hagiwara
It was my first time working as a voice actor, and it was very refreshing. At first, when I was doing the dubbing by myself, I couldn’t really get a feel for it, and I was relying only on the director’s “OK”, but on the last day, I was able to talk to Mr. Furukawa and record it by myself. The experience was completely different from when I was there. It made me realize how much I was supported by the people around me and the environment when I performed. Personally, when I first saw the script and V-conte, I thought, “This is going to be a great work,” so I hope you’ll look forward to it.
Kotone Furukawa
I was very happy to be invited to be a part of this important work that director Shinomiya spent eight years developing from its conception, and although it was my first time working as a voice actor, I was able to get a hands-on experience.
While recording my voice, I was remembering the coronavirus pandemic five years ago. At the time, I was worried that traditional events such as fireworks festivals across the country were disappearing one after another, but now that I think about it, it was the people who were leading the way in modern culture that were supporting my daily life. It was a Japanese anime. I think this work is an art of learning from the past and newing the fireworks in animation by director Shinomiya, who is a former Japanese painter. I am once again honored to have been entrusted with a part of its creation.
