The second season of the TV anime “Yakusha no Hitorigoto” will begin broadcasting on Nippon Television’s “FRIDAY ANIME NIGHT” slot from January 10, 2025. The 25th episode in total, “Cat Cat and Kege,” attracted attention on SNS with comments such as “This story from episode 1 lol,” “I’m all about the cat,” and “I’m laughing at the punch line,” and it was so popular that it ranked among the top trends.

“Hitorigoto of the Pharmacist” is based on the novel by Natsu Hinata, which is published by “Hero Bunko” and has also been adapted into comics in “Big Gangan” and “Sunday GX,” which has sold over 38 million copies in total. It’s mystery-solving entertainment. Set in the Orient during the Middle Ages, the story depicts Neomako, a girl who plays the role of “poison detector,” solving various difficult cases that occur in the imperial court one after another.

When the first season of the TV anime began broadcasting in October 2023, it became a hot topic, consistently ranking high in the viewing rankings on various distribution platforms, and winning a special award at the “TVer Award 2023.”

The long-awaited second season has begun. The broadcast started with the opening, and the beautiful illustrations that played along with the song “Hyakka Ryoran” already received great praise, with comments such as “Jinji-sama is so beautiful…” and “The cat and cat are so cute. The person who created it is a genius.”

Also, due to the existence of a “certain scene” that is reflected in the video, some readers of the original work expressed their expectations, saying, “They’ll even talk about ○○ in the second season…! I’m looking forward to it.” The more you watch it, the more you notice it, so the opening alone makes you want to play it over and over again.

Maomao’s first appearance in the second season is in a scene where she is making something as usual. Jinji and Kojun also appear, wondering, “What are you making?”, and Maomao asks, “Do you need something?” Jinshi replied with a slightly sullen look on his face, “If the scent is this strong, anyone would be curious about it…”, while the viewers looked at the two with the same sense of security, saying, “It’s been a while since we last had this interaction.” I was happy.

Next, Jinji shows interest when he sees a large package wrapped in a furoshiki. Maomao firmly declares, “It’s just a package from my parents’ house, so it’s not a big deal!” It seems like there’s something he wants to hide.

What was revealed was a large amount of books that Maomako had secretly collected. The content is, in modern terms, a naughty book, and people on social media have been very excited, with comments such as “Erotic books are bad”, “Yeah…!?”, and “This story from episode 1 lol”. It seems that Maomao was worried that there were too many virgin daughters among the women in the inner palace, so he prepared this for study purposes.

Jinshi silently flips through the books, showing a cute scene that makes you think of his slightly sullen side, and confiscates all the books with Gaoshun. The sudden, unexpected turn of events caused a burst of laughter, with people saying, “Ah, ah, it was confiscated lol.”

In the scene where Maomako accompanies Princess Gyokuyo’s daughter Suzurei for a walk, a small kitten appears as if to be wary of Maomao. On SNS, comments such as “Cat-cat-to-cat battle” and “Cat-exhausting” and “cat” are often included.

Maomao seems to be missing the kitten, but the second season’s new character, Kosui, finally appears and catches the kitten. There were many curious comments such as “New character kitter!!!” and “What is this child’s true identity?”, and it seems that it will continue to attract attention.

Kosui immediately hands over the kitten, which Maomao decides to raise. When Jinji comes to visit after hearing the rumors, Maomako says, “I don’t really like cats,” but Jinji asks, “Is that your name?” After all, it is all about “cats”.

And Maomao lists the good things about cats that are commonly said, such as, “But according to cat lovers, it’s good that you don’t know what they’re thinking. The cat’s name is Maomao. Episode 25, the beginning of the second season, ended peacefully with comments such as, “No, the letters are cats, and the sounds are full of Mao Mao, so it’s really funny” and “That makes me laugh lol.”

And the ending is “Recipe for Happiness” by Dai Hirai. The video features Jinji as the main character, and this one was also very popular, as was the opening, with people saying, “You’re such an ennui Mr. Jinji! I can’t help it!!”
