The year 2024 will soon come to an end. Anime anime! This year, we have introduced many topics about characters that have appeared from San-X, such as information on Sumikko Gurashi and Rilakkuma goods, and the appearance of the new character Sugar Cocomu.
There! This time, we will be holding a special project with a public relations person from “San-X” and the character “Coronya” from San-X public relations!
In addition to playing back the activities of “San-X” characters in 2024, we will also talk about the behind-the-scenes of the numerous measures that “San-X” has developed and the outlook for 2025.

■What is San-X & Cologna? Check the basic information♪
San-X is a character company that continues to create over 1000 100% original characters, including “Rilakkuma,” “Sumikko Gurashi,” and “Tare Panda.” We deliver characters with mysterious charm to the world through original products, licensing business, and various promotions. Although they look cute, they have a surreality that makes you laugh, and the characters have a gentleness that touches your heart and envelops you. San-X’s original characters are not only cute, but have attracted many people of all ages and genders.
Koronya of “Korokoro Koronya” was appointed as the public relations officer for San-X Co., Ltd. “Korokoro Koronya” appeared as a San-X character in 2017, and after that, Koronya started working as a “part-time cat” at the San-X online shop. And surprisingly, her hard work was recognized, and she was appointed as a new employee in July 2023 as “San-X Public Relations”. I attend events and post a “Cologna public relations diary” on Instagram.
■From the appearance of new characters to the return of nostalgic characters! A series of characters loved by all generations♪
-Looking back on 2024, are there any characters whose activities left a particularly memorable impression?
Public relations person: “Korilakkuma”, a character appearing in “Rilakkuma”, will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2024. We are celebrating our 20th anniversary not only in Japan but also overseas, by touring the country with a tour event traveling with Korilakkuma and holding 20th anniversary POP-UP SHOP in 5 locations in Asia. I received it.
In addition, Korilakkuma’s dance song “Berry Gyutto Korilakkuma” was performed for the first time at “Nico Nico Chokaigi 2024” held in April, and the dance was performed at subsequent events, making it a year with many opportunities to be active on stage. Ta.
Next year will be the 15th anniversary of “Sentimental Circus” and the 10th anniversary of “Jinbee-san”, and various events and products will be released, so please keep an eye out for them!
cologne: Since it was the 20th anniversary, “Korilakkuma” performed very well on stage. I got to see a lot of your cute side!
-The appearance of “new characters” in 2024 has also become a hot topic. How was “Ishiyowa-chan” born?
Public relations person: “Ishiyowa-chan” was born from the idea of the author who wanted to create a character with “empathy” in mind. The key point is to make the characters loose in line with the character’s concept, such as the floppy ears and tail that may be due to a weak will (?) and the blurred pattern on the stomach. A character “Ishitsuyo-chan” who contrasts with “Ishiyowa-chan” has also appeared, and I would be happy if you could pay attention to the future relationship with “Ishiyowa-chan”!
cologna: I’m so happy that the number of San-X members has increased again this year♪ Please keep an eye out for the friends surrounding “Ishiyowa-chan” in 2025.
―I was also surprised that nostalgic characters such as “Tare Panda” appeared again as goods. What happened?
Public relations person: In these days when “Heisei Retro” is all the rage, San-X has selected characters that represent the Heisei era and released them in the form of a revival. We used the illustrations from the time as they were, and also incorporated products that were popular at the time, such as tile stickers and Boston-shaped pouches.
The response was better than we expected, with many saying things like “It’s nostalgic” and “I still love it!” We were moved by the fact that San-X characters have become part of everyone’s precious memories.
cologna:This project was made possible because San-X has been supporting everyone for many years. New characters will also appear, but the charm of each character will never die!
■More encounters with new characters, animation and TikTok projects…What are the highlights in 2025?
-When talking about 2024, are there any topics that are essential for San-X?
Public relations person: San-X held a “San-X co-project” for the first time this year.
San-X has created 100% original and unique characters. The future of San-X will be shaped by the release of unique characters with quirks that you’ll want to share with others. The sale period was limited to 22 days from November 1st to 22nd, so those who were able to find it at the store were very lucky.
For those of you who have already purchased a favorite character, please look forward to the day when that character will play an even more active role.
cologna: The characters that appeared in “San-X Co-project” such as “Plump Teeth” and “Waiwai Noroiwai” might all be starlets…! !

Furthermore, it has been announced that “Rilakkuma” will be made into an anime by Production IG, and it has also been decided that the theme song will be Rira Ikuta’s new song “stay with me”.
