Welcome back to the I Am Anime website
As the TV anime “Chibi Maruko-chan” celebrates its 35th anniversary since its broadcast, on January 5, 2025, “Chibi Maruko-chan Thank You!” It has been revealed that the 35th Anniversary Anime Laugh, Sing, and Good Luck New Year 1-hour special will be released. It will be a one-hour special in which Maruko will try her hand at drifting and will also deliver a fun song show.
Chibi Maruko-chan, originally written by Momoko Sakura, is set in Shimizu City, Shizuoka Prefecture (currently Shimizu Ward, Shizuoka City, Shizuoka Prefecture), and is about Maruko (Momoko Sakura), a third-year elementary school student who is the second daughter of the Sakura family who lives there, and her family and friends. This is a heartwarming work that depicts the daily life of a man in a fun, interesting, and at times poignant way.
The original manga began serialization in Ribon in 1986, and 2021 marks the 35th anniversary of the original work. The original comic, with all 18 volumes on sale, has a total circulation of over 32.5 million copies, including the digital version. Overseas versions are also published in Asian countries. The TV anime began airing in 1990, and is broadcast every Sunday at 6pm on the Fuji TV network. It has been broadcast overseas, including in Greater China, and has continued to be loved by men and women of all ages around the world for a long time.
The TV anime “Chibi Maruko-chan” will celebrate its 35th anniversary in 2025. “Chibi Maruko-chan Thank You!” will be the first broadcast of this memorable year. 35th Anniversary of Anime: Laugh, Sing, Come Lucky! New Year’s 1-Hour Special” includes three volumes: “Maruko Becomes Drifting”, “Tama-chan’s Father’s First Dream”, and “Singing Passionately! Chibi Maruko-chan Song Festival”. An episode will be released.
In the volume “Maruko Becomes a Drifter,” as the title suggests, Maruko and her friends try (!?) Drifting. Maruko, Hamaji, Kosugi-kun, Fujiki-kun, and Ohno-kun form the 3-4 Drifters for the fun party and begin special training, but things don’t go as planned… …and it will develop.
And in the “Singing! Chibi Maruko-chan Song Festival” volume, the friends of “Chibi Maruko-chan” will deliver a fun song show. In addition to singing “Ladybug Samba,” Maruko and Tomozo will perform a number of nostalgic masterpieces from the 1970s. After recording, Kokoro Kikuchi (playing Maruko) and Satoshi Shimada (playing Grandpa) also received comments. Please look forward to the broadcast to see who will sing what songs.

・After recording
When singing “Ladybug’s Samba” at a music show, it was quite difficult for Maruko to get the high pitched voice. Everyone was able to sing with the voices of their characters, and I thought, “That’s amazing!” I really like the relationship between Ikariya Chosuke and Fujiki-kun in “Maruko becomes Drifting,” so I want you to pay close attention to it. This one-hour special will be the first to be broadcast after the 35th anniversary, so please enjoy it!
Satoshi Shimada (role of grandpa)
・After recording
I think it’s going to be a really fun one-hour special filled with Showa songs. There are songs by Maruko and Tomozo, and there are also many songs by their friends. There is also a story about Hatsuyume and the world of drifting, so I think this hour of Maruko World is perfect for the 35th anniversary, so please take a look. A phrase here.
It’s my first dream
