A collaboration event between the movie “Kitaro Birth: GeGeGe no Mystery” and Tokyo Tower’s “RED° TOKYO TOWER” will be held from December 18, 2024. In addition to being able to experience the scenery of the village where Kitaro’s father and Mizuki spent time, there will be a variety of other events, including a tour rally and the sale of goods featuring newly drawn visuals.
The movie “The Birth of Kitaro: The Mystery of Gegege” is a feature-length work based on the 6th season of the TV anime “Gegege no Kitaro”, a nationally beloved anime that has been loved for 55 years, and depicts the origin story of the series related to “The Birth of Kitaro.” . The story depicts the encounter between Kitaro’s father, Medama Oyaji, and the human Mizuki, and the fate that the two fathers face, and received high praise, including winning the Outstanding Animation Award at the 47th Japan Academy Awards. I received it.
Also, from October 4th, a special edition of “Kitaro’s Birth: GeGeGe no Mystery Mao Version” with improved visuals and sound will be screened nationwide. In this “Mao version,” 327 cuts were retaken, and the horror effects that had been envisioned at the storyboard stage were also revived. The sound has also been re-dubbed to express the “horror story that the production team originally envisioned.” Along with this, the age limit was changed from PG-12, which requires parental advice and guidance for elementary school students and younger, to R15+, which prohibits entry and viewing by those under 15 years of age.
A mysterious tunnel will appear in RED° TOKYO TOWER at the collaboration event “Radio Tower Connecting Time”. Once you pass through, the beautiful scenery of the village where Kitaro’s father, Mizuki and his friends lived will unfold before your eyes as a fantasy, along with the recorded voices of the characters.
Furthermore, if you use the special AR app “COCOAR”, you will be able to feel the presence of the monsters that live in the forbidden area. Guests can also experience a three-dimensional effect, such as being able to step into the petals falling from the blood cherry blossoms projected on the wall and take photos.
In addition, a rally will be held where participants will cooperate with GeGeGe no Kitaro, Medama Oyaji, and Neko Musume and explore the mysterious tunnel while touring the venue. Using the excursion rally leaflet given to you at the start, you will uncover mysterious secrets by visiting the hints scattered around RED° TOKYO TOWER.
If you successfully clear the stage, you will receive a random “Secret Sticker (all 3 types)” as a bonus. Be sure to check out the images at the venue.
In this collaboration, goods using newly drawn visuals will be released. In addition to cute mini character illustration goods, there will also be collaboration goods featuring illustrations of Tokyo Tower, also known as the Japanese Radio Tower, which is currently under construction.
The merchandise lineup includes acrylic stands with life-sized illustrations, B2 half-cut tapestries, votive tablet straps, and more.
