The triumphant return to Japan performance of “Attack on Titan – the Musical”, a musical adaptation of the manga “Attack on Titan”, began on December 13th at TOKYO DOME CITY HALL in Tokyo. Along with this, photos from the Gene Pro stage that were held ahead of time have been released, and comments from Go Ueki, who is in charge of the production, have also arrived.
“Attack on Titan” is a dark fantasy manga by Hajime Isayama that was serialized in “Bessatsu Shonen Magazine” from 2009 to 2021. Even after the serialization ended, it remains extremely popular, with various media mixes including TV animation.
The total circulation of all 34 volumes of the comic exceeds 140 million copies worldwide, and it has become a huge hit, so much so that it can be called a social phenomenon. Its momentum is not limited to Japan; comics are published in 18 languages and over 180 countries around the world, and the TV anime series has won multiple overseas awards and is loved all over the world.
“Attack on Titan: The Musical” is a musical based on the original work, with Go Ueki directing and Raimu Okamiya playing the lead role of Eren Jaeger. When the premiere will be performed in Osaka and Tokyo in January 2023, the stage production will be a fusion of the latest technology and gimmicks with analog theatrical methods, the overwhelming presence of the “giant” appearing on the stage, The variety of expressions that mixed music, dance, and action attracted a lot of attention.
